  • Overview

    The Senior Accountant will play a leadership role in an organization that is searching to increase efficiency through innovation and a strong knowledge of accounting software while maintaining the accuracy of the financials. Areas of responsibility include overseeing up to $250 million in accounting for marketing and trade promotion programs including brokerage payables, as well as general accounting as needs arise.


    Marketing & Trade Promotion:

    • Preparation of monthly and quarterly marketing and trade reconciliations, roll-forwards and reports for US and Canada; ensure general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary ledger each period and follow up on variances or system questions, including work orders.
    • Support marketing buyer(s) in creating Internal Orders, Purchase Orders, and entering good receipts.
    • Support marketing managers in product performance reporting needs.
    • Educate marketing on accounting policies for various types of marketing programs and work with finance management to research GAAP, document our position on accounting treatment, and communicate with marketing.
    • Act as primary point of responsibility for recording necessary marketing and TPM accruals and for the determination and recording of any needed adjustment entries.
    • Coordinate the monthly review of TPM performance to ensure accuracy of monthly expense.
    • Establish and maintain procedures to reconcile marketing portion of GRIR transactions.
    • Monitor and evaluate all General Ledger entries associated with the SD rebate broker agreements.

    General Accounting:

    • Prepare and understand complex journal entries.  Reconcile GL accounts accurately and timely and resolve reconciling items within acceptable time frame.
    • Analyze account activity and balances to determine drivers of change in the financial statements and communicate these findings effectively in verbal and written format to management, auditors, and others.
    • Partner with A/P, A/R, operations and marketing departments to gain understanding of business and data requirements, propose, evaluate and implement solutions which ensure general ledger balances are correct, transactions are classified properly and reported accurately.
    • Prepare and submit financial reports and data required by Corporate, auditors, and other internal and external customers on a timely basis.
    • Identify, propose, implement and document improvements to processes and procedures.
    • Assist the Financial Planning Department in their reporting and budgeting processes.
    • Assist management in special projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    • 5-10 years of experience as an accountant in general ledger with progressive responsibilities
    • Solid understanding of GAAP, financial statement preparation, and accounting theory
    • Intermediate to advanced skill in Excel and Word
    • Strong ERP system experience, preferably as a super user
    • Knowledge and experience with SAP, including CRM (TPM) preferred
    • Background with sales and marketing programs preferred
    • 2 to 4 years of experience in public auditing or internal auditing preferred

    • Ability to work effectively with others


    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business (Accounting preferred)
    • CPA or MBA a plus


    • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones, and utilize a variety of office equipment. Ability to lift a minimum of 15 lbs. and reach overhead.


    • Occasional domestic and/or international travel


    • Ability to work extended hours as business requires
