Overview

Purpose:

The position will provide paralegal support to the General Counsel in the areas of intellectual property (primarily trademark) and related branding matters, including licensing, Internet and advertising issues, contests, international transactions, and packaging regulatory reviews; claims and litigation matter management; contract administration; and corporate secretary functions. The position supports Dole Asia Holdings, based in Singapore, including Dole Packaged Foods North America, based in Westlake Village, CA, and other worldwide entities.

 

This role provides flexibility to work in a hybrid environment of home and our Westlake Village, CA office.

Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Manage trademark, copyright, patent, and domain name portfolios.
  • Review packaging for branding and regulatory compliance.
  • Review marketing collateral (including print, broadcast, online, mobile) for branding and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with drafting and review of a wide variety of contracts, including licenses, joint promotional agreements, and others.
  • Assist with claims and litigation support and administration.
  • Manage corporate secretary database, draft resolutions, Secretary’s Certificates, and other documents.
  • Manage corporate Code of Conduct reporting database.
  • System Administrator for Serengeti, hCue, MKDenial, EthicsPoint hotline application, MarkMonitor domain name portal, SharePoint legal portal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:                                                        

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a large corporation and/or top law firm.
  • U.S. and foreign trademark administration experience required (experience to include searches, applications, responses to office actions, statements of use, renewals, monitoring, oppositions, docketing and maintenance of database).
  • Experience in litigation support functions.
  • Experience in corporate secretary functions.
  • Preferred experience/skills:
    • Experience with drafting and reviewing variety of contracts, including service and vendor agreements, trademark licenses, promotional agreements, and others.
    • Experience with labeling regulations and/or food claims.
    • Experience with managing domain name portfolio including DNS management.
    • Foreign language fluency.

Education & Certification:

  • Professional Paralegal training/certification with specialization in intellectual property.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and use the computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and use a variety of office equipment; ability to lift 15 pounds and reach overhead.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel expected.
