Dole Packaged Foods (McDonough Operations) is a large diverse operation with the primary function of processing and packaging frozen fruit for retail sale.  Critical to the execution of Dole McDonough’s function of processing and packaging frozen fruit is various processing and packaging equipment.  To support business success, the site will be staffed first and second shift to provide maintenance support to ensure safe and reliable operation. Candidates will need to be flexible to work first or second shift, and weekends as needed.

 

Under minimal supervision, leads and participates in a wide of advanced journey-level duties for preventative and corrective maintenance involved in the installation, design, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery used in the operation of a food manufacturing facility and performs related duties as assigned.  Level III is an advanced skill level, lead position in the Maintenance Tech position classification, Incumbents serve as a working lead person performing the full range of skilled duties in preventative and corrective maintenance in the areas of construction, installation, maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and machinery including motors, booster pumps, industrial engines, disinfecting equipment, check valves, and control. Advanced electronic trouble shooting and repair of control systems, HMI, PLC, VFD diagnostic and or programing. Proficient with use of electrical/ electronic diagnostic equipment. 

Responsibilities

A Maintenance Technician III may perform the following duties in addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above:

  • Leads and participates in a variety of journey-level advanced skill duties involved in preventative and corrective maintenance duties involving inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and servicing of industrial equipment and machinery including motors, booster pumps, industrial engines, disinfecting equipment, check valves, and control.
  • Leads and participates preventative and corrective maintenance involved in inspecting, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing industrial equipment and machinery including motors, booster pumps, industrial engines, disinfecting equipment, check valves, and control; leads and performs electrical repairs to motors, drives and machinery; uses lockout/tag-out procedures to block electrical sources.
  • Leads and participates preventative and corrective maintenance for the installation, repair and maintenance of electric utility power facilities and equipment.
  • Prepares and reviews work orders, material requisitions, reports and other written documentation for this operation 
  • Leads and participates in the design and fabrication of a variety of brackets, supports and other metal structures, using torches, welding equipment and other fabrication equipment.
  • Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers and other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Works to ensure the DMD safety program is followed.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Demonstrate application of advanced principles, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial; electrical, mechanical equipment and machinery common to large food manufacturing facilities; machine shop procedures and practices; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the trade; application of lockout/block out procedures; shop mathematics; water hydraulics; use and operation of oxyacetylene and cutting torch materials; basic electrical safety, confined space entry procedures, basic first aid; relevant state and federal regulations; cost estimating and basic techniques of engineering and drafting as they apply to assigned responsibilities; computer applications related to the work; codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the trade; and mechanical maintenance.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Under minimal supervision, diagnose and repair a wide variety of industrial/mechanical equipment, systems and machinery, such as valves, motors, pumps and other equipment; use precision and diagnostic instruments to measure required tolerances of mechanical parts; operate a pump installing reg; identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work; read and interpret plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints, use hand tools, pipe-threaders, taps, dies, measuring instruments and laser alignment equipment; exercise independent judgment within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; coordinate work assignments with other sections, divisions or departments; Follow and apply written and oral work instructions. Support, promote, and implement Company and or department’s mission, direction, and policies in a positive and professional manner and any changes to those items.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; Associates or higher degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field preferred.
  • High school level verbal and written communication skill; Ability to perform basic mathematical equations;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit for 8- hours/shift
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. On occasional basis
  • Must be able to bend/stoop/squat/twist/kneel and turn throughout workday, for varying lengths of time
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms below shoulder level to above shoulder level
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones, and utilize a variety of office equipment. Ability to lift a minimum of 15 lbs. and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to climb stairs
