The Regulatory Manager, Americas is a key business partner to the Innovation, Quality, Legal and Marketing teams, ensuring processes, systems, and policies are in place to support and enforce regulatory compliance and best practices in North and South American markets. This role focuses on regulatory compliance for labeling, claims, product handling, and cross-border trade.

 

This role provides flexibility to work in a hybrid environment of home and our Westlake Village, CA office. (Hybrid is defined as 3 times per week in the office).

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance Processes:

  • Establish and manage rigorous regulatory processes to meet labeling, promotional material, and claim substantiation requirements for North and South American markets.
  • Align processes with the needs of diverse regulatory frameworks, including FDA, USDA, CFIA (Canada), ANVISA (Brazil), SENASA (Argentina), and other relevant agencies.

Regional Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Stay informed on food regulations across North and South America, proactively advising internal teams on upcoming regulatory changes.
  • Support cross-border import/export compliance for products moving between the U.S., Canada, and South America.

Engagement and Relationship Building:

  • Actively engage with regulatory bodies such as FDA, USDA, CFIA, ANVISA, and SENASA, ensuring strong relationships to facilitate compliance and resolve issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for compliance-related issues within the Americas region.

Training and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Provide training to internal teams on regional regulatory requirements, labeling standards, and claim substantiation across the Americas.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions to ensure cross-functional teams understand key regulatory priorities and requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Act as a key partner for Innovation, Quality, Legal, and Marketing teams, ensuring all projects meet regional regulatory standards.
  • Set supplier and customer expectations for compliance in North and South America, managing product information requests effectively.

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance with labeling, safety, and handling regulations across the Americas.
  • Lead initiatives to harmonize labeling and claims compliance across North and South American markets.

Documentation Management:

  • Manage and maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation to ensure compliance across regional requirements.

Escalation and Reporting:

  • Escalate non-conforming activity to senior management and provide strategic guidance for resolution.
  • Report on regional compliance trends and provide actionable insights to leadership.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the organization’s regulatory goals.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:       

  • 5-7 years of food industry experience
  • 3-5 years of regulatory experience with a focus on U.S., Canadian, and South American markets
  • Proven experience working with agencies such as FDA, USDA, CFIA, ANVISA, or SENSASA
  • Strong working knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations for labeling, materials, and claims
  • Solid understanding of food regulations in the Americas, particularly Canada and key South American countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico
  • Proficient use of Microsoft applications
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency preferred

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or Life Sciences required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and use the computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and use a variety of office equipment; ability to lift 15 pounds and reach overhead.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 30% travel expected

FOR JOBS BASED IN CALIFORNIA:

Hiring Pay Scale: $110,000 to $140,000

The pay rate offered will consider a wide range of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, accomplishments, and location.
