Purpose:

The Sr. Microbiologist incumbent interfaces with internal functions in the Analytical Lab as well as with external facilities. The incumbent must be an effective technical and team leader, energetic and enthusiastic about the food safety goals and objectives. This position is a non-exempt, full-time and fully benefited position and reports to the Analytical Lab Manager

Primary Accountabilities:

• Perform/review all sample/environmental testing methods, and standards according to procedures.
• Process/support with inventory management. 
• Support lab and procedure improvements to maximize quality and productivity
• Research new analytical procedures and assist with creating SOP's.
• Perform/review SAP results entry, product hold and retest process. 
• Train and lead microbiologists. 
• Support/review ISO 17025:2017 standard is being followed. 
• Complete/review laboratory records and provide/process internal/external COA’s
• Support internal and external audits for regulatory compliances. 
• Perform/support risk assessments on all manuals/procedures. 
• Review all spreadsheets associated with product/environmental sample testing.
• Support continuous improvement and other assignments. 
• Prepare media as required.
• Follow company policies
• Follow safety procedures
• Use SAP to enter results, release product, hold product and maintain any other statuses as appropriate for the products in the system, including special system releases.
• Drive company car to pick up samples and supplies.
• Recording, plating, and preparation of samples.
• Petrifilm reading.
• Accurately complete Sample Analysis Forms, Compilation Forms, Recording Form, GLP’s, Analytical Laboratory Record Review Form and COA’s.
• Maintain spreadsheets associated with samples received and samples in testing process.
• Research and investigate quality records pertaining to customer complaints.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and managements.

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:       

• Bachelor s Degree in Microbiology, Food Microbiology or related field, required.
• 3+ years full-time microbiologist experience required. Experience in food industry is preferred. 
• Self-starter and highly motivated for continuous improvement.
• Knowledge in food safety programs and regulations are plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; proficiency in SAP/GLOBE systems. 
• Able to handle multiple assignments.
• Be able to work independently inside and outside the laboratory.
• Must have English reading/writing proficiency.
• Must have PC skills, proficiency in Windows, Microsoft office applications, emailing.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must have competent math skills.
• Read and follow written instructions carefully.
• Assist in special projects assigned by Quality Assurance management which may require calculations, computations, creative design, and critical thinking skills.

Education & Certification:

• Bachelor of Science in scientific field required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time, climb stairs and walk at least 1200 feet unassisted.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• Requires climbing, standing, stooping, twisting, lifting and other physical movements to perform job.

Work Environment:

• Industrial plant environment with related noise and temperatures.
• Any shift, any day of the week, as assigned. Overtime as needed.
