Overview

Purpose:

Will support EHS Supervisor in performance of duties in the Environmental, Health and Safety Department. Continuously anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices; implement safety and environmental programs, procedures & policies; assist workers on site with all aspects of safety. Monitor the effectiveness of hazard controls and programs. Assist with the oversight and sampling of the wastewater ponds, freshwater wells, and field groundwater sampling wells. Lead by example always; think and act progressively in the spirit of continuously improving our safety systems.

Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities:

 

  • Act as EHS Department representative and resource for all departments
  • Take drinking water and wastewater samples and record quality readings
  • Respond to chemical spills, or unidentified substances found on-site
  • Act autonomously in safety and environmental matters
  • Assist maintenance supervisors and personnel in cleanup of chemical spills
  • Oversee DOT regulated shipments of hazardous waste
  • Lead safety presentations to employees
  • Plan and conduct safety training, exercises, and audits
  • Act as direct point of contact in the EHS Supervisor’s absence for audits or Regulatory visits
  • Organize and file EHS records in a timely manner
  • Operate a forklift when necessary
  • Lead always by strictly following all company policies, safety and food-safety procedures
  • Assist in incident investigations
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate cooperative behavior with co-workers, supervisors and management.
  • Must present a positive attitude, especially when assessing injury incidents
  • Other duties that are reasonably associated with the above essential functions of the job or additional assignments designated by EHS Supervisor

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:

  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory documents, company policy, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and professional correspondence
  • Obtain hazardous materials & waste certification within 90 days of hire
  • Meet physical requirements for this position
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Outlook, Power Point & Excel
  • Ability to speak in front of or train large groups when necessary
  • Ability to create training material and reports
  • Ability to research and effectively cite OSHA, EPA and other state or federal regulations by use of online and other resources
  • General knowledge of safety principles is a must and the ability to teach these core principles to all associates, regardless of company status is a mandatory position requirement

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Excellent root cause analysis and investigatory abilities
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English) a plus
  • First Aid and Adult CPR current certification preferred and/or obtain Adult First Aid and Adult CPR certification within 90 days of hire

Education & Certification:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and in a related field a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stairs
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl
  • Requires use of hands to grasp, push, pull, etc.
  • Must be willing to frequently work near geese and other associated wildlife
  • Must be willing to investigate all incidents regardless of type, including injuries
  • In addition, this position will require the successful passing of a Medical/Employee Health Department evaluation
  • Employment is contingent upon drug screen, background verification and skills test required for some positions.

Hiring Pay Scale: $_21.00_____ to $__22.00________
